Dabkeh for Beginners

Join us for a dabkeh workshop and dabkeh course at Nabala Cafe!

This beginner-friendly workshop and course introduces participants to the fundamentals of Palestinian dabkeh, rhythm, movement, and group performance. Students will learn traditional steps, rhythm patterns, coordination, and the cultural meaning behind the dance while experiencing dabkeh as a form of movement, community, and heritage.

The workshop is open to all levels and no previous dabkeh experience is required. The course consists of 8 sessions and does not require previous experience. Participants will be guided through traditional Palestinian dance movements while developing confidence, rhythm, and stage presence in a welcoming and interactive environment.

Workshop: Monday, September 21 at 7 pm @ Nabala Cafe
Courses: Every Monday at 7 pm, starting on September 28 @ Nabala Cafe

About the instructor:
Mohammed Darawsha is a Palestinian dabkeh artist, trainer, choreographer, and artistic director with over 30 years of experience in Palestinian folklore and performing arts. He has trained children, youth, and adults in dabkeh, rhythm, movement, stage presence, and artistic performance.

Mohammed has created and led dabkeh and dance workshops in schools, universities, community centers, summer camps, and cultural events. He has performed on stages in Palestine and the broader Middle East, Europe, China, and the United States.

For him, dabkeh is more than a dance. It is a living expression of history, identity, and Palestinian culture. His approach connects traditional dabkeh with contemporary movement, theatrical expression, and physical storytelling, creating an engaging experience for participants of all backgrounds and experience levels.
