Shaam Ka Nashta | Mother's Day with Chai, Poetry & Postcards

Shaam ka Nashta translates to our evening tea: a time for gathering around biscuits and chai, conversation and gossip, grumbling and story-sharing.

We welcome mothers & daughters & anyone who would like to celebrate them! This will be a cozy gathering with 5 featured poetry readers, some chai-and-conversation, an invitation to write a postcard for a person that has nurtured you & a closing reading from the recently published collection: my mother is a mixed metaphor.

6.15: Readings from featured poets (Shivani Kumar, Darshita Jain & more)


6.45: Postcard writing (We’ll pass around postcards/cards and invite folks to write a note to someone who raised them (a mother, sister, grandparent, a place, a meal, a teacher, lover, friend, the earth, anyone or anything that has nurtured you).

7.00: Closing Reading (Shivani Gupta)

We will have time for signing of books, and to convene over snacks & tea (available for purchase from the wonderful Nabala Cafe).

Capacity: 30-35 attendees.

Registration: Tip-jar based, all that is raised will be split amongst the featured readers.

We will bring stationery for you, all you have to do is arrive.

Radical Writers Cafe

We’re back! Come through for the December rendition of the radical writers’ cafe.

In times like these, we need bold visions to move us forward. Step into your creative power with other like-minded folks at this writers’ cafe. We’ll be doing a prompted writing session together, discussing our ideas, and offering each other feedback if desired.

Writers of all levels are encouraged to come participate. Feel free to write poems, scripts, essays, speeches, stream-of-consciousness, or whatever you desire. Bring your notebook, laptop, or whatever you like to write on.

Craft Popup for Gaza Mutual Aid

Join us for a craft pop-up on Saturday, December 13th. We will have handmade crafts by local artists, and tatreez purses created by Nareman Obeid, a Palestinian embroiderer who is currently in Egypt, separated from her family in Gaza. Zine Workshop

Join us on 3/21 from 7-9pm for a zine workshop! This hands-on workshop focuses on affirmation zines, a small keepsake filled with positive quotes to keep you grounded in uncertain times. Participants are encouraged to bring personal archival materials (old journals, letters, keepsakes, photos, magazine/newspaper clippings, etc) to include in their zines. Zine making supplies will be provided. 

Suggested donation of $10.
