🍿Join us for a screening and discussion of the classic Chicago film, ‘The Spook Who Sat by the Door!’

✊🏿The 1973 film based on Sam Greenlee’s novel follows a Black revolutionary who learns critical lessons while fighting for Black liberation.

💭We’ll host a discussion afterwards to dig into the material of the film and draw lessons we can use to continue the fight for liberation today.

The Silver Cherry Launch Party

The Silver Cherry is celebrating our writers! As we grow and expand, we sign on more wonderful authors. TSC’s goals are to uplift and give visibility to Black woman poets while fortifying and remembering marginalized stories from the past.

Let’s welcome on our new writers (😎) at a special event at Nabala Cafe. Gather to listen to this amazing lineup including Tiara B. Gold, Ingabire, Imani Marie Joseph, and Imani Warren. Read more about them below. Mark your calendars & hope to see you soon❤️

inga (she/they) is a Chicago-based multidisciplinary artist, birthworker, & curator from southwest Michigan with roots in Rwanda. Guided by vulnerability, memory, & spirituality, her work exists where art meets ritual to create space for introspection, connection, & remembrance.

Tiara B. Gold (she/her) is a Milwaukee-born poet and multidisciplinary artist whose creative home has become Chicago’s art community. Her work spans visual art, performance, poetry, and movement, with two art exhibits, appearances and choreography in local and international music videos, a self-published chapbook, and now representation under The Silver Cherry. Continuing to expand across mediums and audiences, her work reflects an evolving interdisciplinary presence.

Imani Marie Joseph is a cultural worker from the Southside of Chicago. She is a writer, curator, and educator. As a public historian, her research focuses on American history and the African diaspora. Her scholarship prioritizes political philosophy and oral testimonies. Website: imanimariejoseph.org.

Imani Warren is a St. Louis raised poet and publisher based in Chicago, Illinois. Having published chapbooks and a full length poetry book with Raging Possum Press, she is now focusing on garnering visibility for Black women in the literary world. As founder of The Silver Cherry, she focuses on event curation, crafting excellence and encouraging the mission of TSC by doing whatever it takes.

Illinois Divest Teach In

🗝️Join us to talk and take action in how divestment from illegal occupations can benefit Illinois residents.

In February, IL State Treasurer Michael Frerichs renewed a $15 Million investment in Israel Bonds. Less than a month later, Frerichs purchased another $10 Million in Israel Bonds. He claims the bonds “provide stable returns and are a strong investment for Illinois,” while Israel Bonds’ global credit score sits at a 3, right above “Junk” bonds, which are bonds with a high risk of default and are unstable. Israel Bonds is considered a horrible investment for Illinois and its residents. Michael Frerichs has invested over $100 Million of Illinois tax dollars into an illegal occupation. Making Illinois and every resident a direct sponsor for genocide, ethic cleansing, and displacement. However, there are ways to prevent bad investments from continuing, and that’s through divestment.
